The Universidade Católica Portuguesa (UCP) is organising a special two-day programme at Expo 2025 Osaka, taking place on 18 and 19 June. This initiative is part of UCP’s internationalisation strategy, aiming to strengthen its global presence, deepen relations with international partners, and highlight the longstanding ties between Portugal and Japan.
The programme is being developed in collaboration with Sophia University in Tokyo – a strategic partner of UCP within the international network SACRU (Strategic Alliance of Catholic Research Universities), of which UCP is a founding member. The partnership between the two institutions was formalised in March 2023 through the signing of a cooperation agreement.
Highlights of the programme include the exhibition Poetry as an Echological Survival, by artist and researcher Nuno da Luz, and the seminar The Sea as Potential and Representation: Unlocking the Power of the Oceans.

The exhibition will be on display at the Portugal Pavilion on 18 and 19 June, curated by Nuno Crespo and produced by the UCP’s School of Arts. It presents an artistic reflection on ecology, language, and survival in a changing world.
The international seminar will take place on 18 June at 14:00 at the Portugal Pavilion and will explore the ocean’s multifaceted role as a symbol, resource, and driver of innovation. Bringing together academics and specialists from various fields, the session aims to inspire global action for the sustainable and responsible use of marine resources, aligned with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.
