On September 9 and 10, 2025, the Portugal Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka will host the Deep Listening Deep Sea(ing) (DLDS) project. This new mission, following the Deep Sea Missions 1 to 5, explores the intersection of art, science, education, and environmental awareness in a context especially relevant to the Pavilion's theme: "Ocean, the Blue Dialogue", which highlights Portugal as a nation deeply connected to the sea.
DLDS will "give voice" to the Deep Ocean, engaging the diverse voices of children, teenagers, young adults, teachers, artists, and scientists who participated in previous missions.

On the Terrace of the Portugal Pavilion, a performance-documentary will be presented, blending sounds, images, and ideas, and integrating elements from the DLDS constellations and the Imaginary Sound Cartography. Throughout the day, performative music-theatre moments outside the Pavilion will offer additional ways of "giving voice" to the Deep Ocean.
The Deep Listening Deep Sea(ing) (DLDS) project is the result of a partnership between the Companhia de Música Teatral, the University of Aveiro, the University of Bergen (Norway), the Marvão International Academy for Music, Arts and Sciences, and the Fábrica Centro Ciência Viva de Aveiro. It also has the support of CIIMAR (Interdisciplinary Centre of Marine and Environmental Research) and the Mission Structure for the Extension of the Continental Shelf, and was funded by the EEA Grants.
The DGArtes Internationalisation Support Program, AICEP, and the Oriente Foundation support the Expo Osaka 2025 Mission.
