What is the future of design? The Design Future exhibition, curated by Ana Mestre, proposes possible answers to this question through a dialogue between research, design practice and experimentation. Presented at the Faculty of Fine Arts of the University of Lisbon, the show highlights design as a tool for transformation and its role in building a more sustainable, circular, ethical, and inclusive future.
The exhibition, on display on 10 August in the Ocean Made room of the Portugal Pavilion at Expo 2025 Osaka, brings together projects developed by the Lisbon-based studio SUSDESIGN – Design for Sustainability Studio & Research, and incorporates the vision of the new Future Worlds Lab at CIEBA. Based on six thematic pillars — from climate challenges to social innovation, including regeneration, health, digital technologies, and new ways of acting — Design Futures is a manifesto that invites reflection and action through design.
